Course 1: EAP - Making your work with adolescents efficient and enjoyable: Communicating effectively with adolescents and taking care of mental health and substance use problems

Training objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants should have improved their skills so as to:
1. Establish a trustful, empathetic and respectful relationship with the adolescent, securing confidentiality and taking into account available ethical guidelines.
2. As far as possible, involve parents or caregivers in investigation, treatment and counselling activities. If appropriate, link with potential stakeholders, such as school health professionals or social workers.
3. Demonstrate specific skills in the assessment of mental health and mental health symptoms such as anxiety, depression, self-harm or victimization.
4. Provide support for adolescents with problematic behaviour and/or mood, organize referral if needed.
5. Assess use and/or misuse of substances (tobacco, alcohol, cannabis & other drugs) and respond appropriately.
6. The session will be interactive: the facilitators expect to build on the participants' experience and will use training tools such as buzz, videos and simulation (role play).
