Building a More Sustainable Congress Experience
At EAPS 2026, we are committed to integrating sustainable practices that create a positive impact on our environment, our communities, and the global paediatric field.
We believe that everyone involved in the congress – from the organising team and partners to exhibitors and delegates – plays a role in creating a responsible and sustainable event. With this in mind, EAPS 2026 is being planned with sustainability at its core, aiming to minimize environmental impact while fostering meaningful scientific exchange and collaboration.
The host city of Athens and the congress venue support this vision by promoting responsible resource use, accessible transportation, and sustainable event practices.
How You Can Contribute as an EAPS 2026 Delegate
Sustainability is a shared responsibility. As members of the paediatric community, we encourage delegates to support environmentally conscious practices during the congress. Some simple ways to contribute include:
- Using the EAPS 2026 mobile app to access the programme instead of printing materials
- Choosing sustainable transportation options when travelling to and around Athens
- Reducing waste and using recycling facilities where available
- Bringing or using reusable bottles and mugs whenever possible
Small actions by many individuals can create a meaningful collective impact, helping us deliver a congress that is both scientifically enriching and environmentally responsible.
EAPS 2026 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a global framework for addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges. These 17 goals guide efforts to create a healthier, more equitable, and more sustainable world by 2030.
EAPS 2026 aims to contribute to these objectives through responsible event planning and community engagement.
GOAL 2: End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture
What we are doing in 2026:
Seasonal, Organic, and Locally-Sourced Ingredients: All food offered to our participants will be made from seasonal, organic ingredients sourced from local and regional suppliers.
Vegetarian Meal Options: We will provide a variety of vegetarian meal choices, promoting sustainable food practices.
Reusable or Compostable Utensils: All food and beverage utensils will be either reusable or compostable, minimising single-use waste.
Food Donation to Those in Need: We are partnering with non-profit organisations to donate any leftover food, ensuring it reaches those in need.
Goal 4: Ensure Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education and Promote Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All
What we are doing in 2026:
High-Quality Scientific Programme: The programme is carefully curated by an international team of experts. We focus on continually improving session formats, introducing new relevant topics, and inviting the best global experts to share their knowledge.
Sessions On Demand: All recorded EAPS sessions will be available to participants for 3 months following the conference. This allows attendees to catch up on missed content or re-watch key presentations and discussions.
Reduced Registration Fees for Low-Resource Countries: We offer reduced registration fees to participants from low-resource countries, ensuring equitable access to the congress for all.
GOAL 10: Reduced Inequalities
What we are doing in 2026:
Reduced Registration Fees for Low-Resource Countries: EAPS offers reduced registration fees to ensure equitable access to the congress for participants from low-resource countries.
Gender-Diverse and Balanced Faculty: Our faculty is intentionally gender-diverse and balanced, ensuring inclusivity and a broad range of perspectives.
Inclusive and Welcoming Environment: We are dedicated to creating a welcoming and accepting environment for all participants, regardless of sex, gender, nationality, race, age, or physical ability.
GOAL 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns
What we are doing in 2026:
Limiting Printed Materials: We are reducing printed promotional materials in favor of digital alternatives to minimise paper waste.
Encouraging Sustainable Exhibits: We actively encourage our exhibitors to reduce single-use giveaways at their booths and opt for more sustainable alternatives.
Choosing Sustainable Options: In organising the event, we prioritise sustainable options from our vendors, openly communicate our efforts, and encourage our partners and participants to follow suit.
Local and Seasonal Catering: We are working with our local catering partner to ensure the use of locally sourced, seasonal products, reducing the transportation footprint of the congress.
